Major entertainment all the year round
Events

Avignon is famous for its theatre festival, founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, which brings the best of world contemporary theatre in the summer to the ancient city.
Along with the official “in” festival, some 900 theatrical companies participate in the fringe “off”-festival and transform the city every summer into an immense and joyful artistic melting pot..
In February, the “Hivernales” (contemporary dance festival), the other major festival celebrates all forms of dance.
